GreenCrew vs Better Stack
Better Stack grew up from Better Uptime. The pitch is no longer “we ping your site.” It is “uptime, logs, and incidents in one place.” That is a serious product for a team that has outgrown a free checker and is not ready for Datadog. GreenCrew is the other direction: stay small on purpose.
Side by side
| Topic | GreenCrew | Better Stack |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Early products that need to know if a URL is up and a page they can hand to customers when it is not. | Teams that want uptime plus log search and on-call in the same vendor, without an observability RFP. |
| Not for | Platform teams buying APM, log pipelines, or multi-step browser synthetics. | Founders who only need a health check and a public page, or enterprises already standardised on Datadog or New Relic. |
| Hosting | Hosted | Hosted |
| What it checks | HTTP(S) on a 1, 5, 15, or 60 minute schedule. | HTTP and browser uptime, plus log aggregation, error tracking, and incident management in the same product family. |
| Status page | Public page at greencrew.space/yourhost, with 90-day history and manual reports. | Better Uptime status pages with subscribers and incident posts. |
| Alerts | Discord, Slack, email, and SMS — in progress. | On-call, phone, SMS, Slack, and incident workflows. |
| Complexity | Simple | Moderate |
| Pricing shape | Free while we keep it simple. | Usage-based across uptime, logs, and incidents — more than a ping tool. |
What Better Stack actually sells
You get monitors, a status page, on-call routing, and a log product that can ingest what your app already prints. Incident timelines live next to the check that failed. For a five-person team that wants one vendor for “is it down?” and “what did the process say?”, that bundling is the point.
Where they overlap
Both publish status and both can tell you a URL stopped answering. If you only turned on Better Uptime and ignored logs, the day-to-day looks like any hosted checker.
Where they part
Better Stack wants you to grow into logs and on-call. The bill and the UI follow that. GreenCrew does not ingest logs, does not page a rotation, and does not pretend to. We give you a check, a 90-day strip, and a manual report when checkout dies with a green homepage. If you already know you need log search this quarter, we are the wrong tab.
Who should pick which
- GreenCrew: You want monitoring without standing up a telemetry pipeline, and a status page you can edit by hand.
- Better Stack: You want uptime and logs in one login, with on-call attached to the same incident.
