GreenCrew vs Datadog

People search “Datadog vs …” because Datadog is the gravity well. Synthetics, RUM, APM, logs — they have a tile for it. None of those tiles is a public status page a founder can send in an email footer. GreenCrew is that page, plus the check that feeds it.

What Datadog actually sells

Datadog is how a platform team sees production. If you already run it, you already know whether checkout is slow. You still do not have a customer-facing URL unless you buy or build something else.

Where they overlap

A Datadog synthetic and a GreenCrew check can both hit GET /. That is a technical overlap, not a product overlap.

Where they part

Datadog will not be cheaper, simpler, or more public than we are. We will not replace traces, log search, or Kubernetes monitors. The honest setup for a growing company is often Datadog (or similar) for engineers and a small status tool for everyone else. We are the second thing.

Who should pick which

  • GreenCrew: You need a public page and a check, including if Datadog is already too much — or already in place and invisible to users.
  • Datadog: You are instrumenting services, not announcing incidents to customers.
