Compare/GreenCrew vs Sematext
Uptime checker vs Observability suite
GreenCrew vs Sematext
Sematext sits in the observability aisle. You send it logs, you chart infrastructure, you trace requests, and you can add a synthetic check. GreenCrew sits in the “is the site up?” aisle. Comparing them only makes sense if someone has put both on a spreadsheet labelled monitoring.
Side by side
| Topic | GreenCrew | Sematext |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Early products that need to know if a URL is up and a page they can hand to customers when it is not. | Teams that want ELK-shaped logs, APM, and synthetics without signing a Datadog-sized contract. |
| Not for | Platform teams buying APM, log pipelines, or multi-step browser synthetics. | A founder whose actual need is “tell me if the site is up” and a link for customers. |
| Hosting | Hosted | Hosted |
| What it checks | HTTP(S) on a 1, 5, 15, or 60 minute schedule. | Synthetics, RUM, infrastructure metrics, logs, and tracing. HTTP uptime is one tile on a larger board. |
| Status page | Public page at greencrew.space/yourhost, with 90-day history and manual reports. | Not the centre of the product — observability first, status second. |
| Alerts | Discord, Slack, email, and SMS — in progress. | Threshold and anomaly alerts across logs, metrics, and synthetics. |
| Complexity | Simple | Heavy |
| Pricing shape | Free while we keep it simple. | Usage-based observability pricing. You pay for data, not for one URL. |
What Sematext actually sells
Sematext’s job is to replace a chunk of ELK + APM + experience monitoring. OpenTelemetry, distributed tracing, SLOs, and log pipelines are the product. Website uptime is a feature they happen to have.
Where they overlap
A Sematext HTTP monitor and a GreenCrew check will both notice a 502. That is the end of the overlap.
Where they part
If you need to know why latency moved, you need traces and logs. We will not grow a query language for that. If you need customers to see a 90-day strip and an incident you typed yourself, Sematext is a heavy way to get there. Use them for production telemetry. Use us for the public promise.
Who should pick which
- GreenCrew: You want a public status page and a check, not a second observability vendor.
- Sematext: You are buying logs, metrics, and traces, and uptime is a checkbox on that same invoice.
